COMPARING COHESIVE DEVICES: ENGLISH AND ASL

Campbell McDermid will present a short discussion of the concept of cohesion in English and ASL focusing on definite and indefinite determiners and how their use and interpretation affects receipt of the implicit and explicit messages being communicated.

LANGUAGE SHAMING 

Dawn Wessling and Dr. Suzanne Ehrlich will discuss their study of Language Shaming in interpreter education, exploring the concept, its impact on interpreters’ thinking, practice, and perception, and how discourse might be shifted into an empowered, collaborative, and supportive position.
