"Unpacking and Acknowledging Privilege as ASL Interpreters"
This workshop capitalizes on the interpreter that views themself, or wants to view themself, as an agent of social justice and medium for equity. While increasingly more interpreters are finding themselves passionate about issues relating to justice, many do not know how to translate these thoughts and feelings into not only doable actions, but conscious action. This training, while brief, will assist interpreters and others engaged with Deaf Communities in getting real around the issues of inequity and how we can appropriately stand as both ally and friend to communities that have given us so much. Both the work of Peggy McIntosh and the Way of Council will be drawn upon. This workshop will be held in ASL.
